Travelling Through Beauty

On Wednesday I took the train from Fort William to Glasgow. This almost 4 hour train trip is consistently voted one of the most beautiful train rides… in the world. I can contest to that, it is stunning. There is something so restorative about simply travelling and watching the unrivalled beauty of nature whoosh past. If I can recommend something that is healing in its simplicity, it is moving whilst absorbing how wonderful God’s creation truly is.

But you don’t need to head the Scottish Highlands to know that. When you are done reading this post, get up, take a stroll and take time to notice everything that God has laid out around you.

There is beauty at every corner, something to smile at on every saunter.

Let us pray;

Heavenly Parent,

We thank you for your wonderous creation, nothing we can make with human hands even parallels the aesthetic landscape you have set before us. Lakes, glens, snow-capped mountains. Forests, plains, sandy beaches. Dandelions, a rain storm, pigeons and moss.

We thank you for the beauty of every stranger we pass on a walk; in every person we cast our eyes upon we see your awe and glory reflected back. May we never forget that. Every cloud that graces the sky is a reminder of your power, every person going about their business as we stroll is a reminder of your love and grace.

Holy Spirit, remind us to take time to appreciate all that is around us, may all our senses tingle with the splendour you have set out. It is in experiencing beauty that we see your beauty flowing back from ourselves.

Amen
