This morning, as I walked at one of my most favourite parts of town, I took time to enjoy being near to the river. I took time to enjoy the stillness, the peace, the sense of flow. Rather than heading off to work what I really wanted to do was grab a kayak or a paddleboard and head off and spend time on the water.
The water can be a fast and scary place, we must acknowledge the danger it poses; but at the same time there is something so calming and wonderful about being on it.
This morning I was reminded of Jesus’s invitation to his disciples, and to us, to have faith and step out on to the water.
Let us pray;
Jesus you stepped out in faith and did the seemingly impossible, you walked upon water.
You showed us that faith transcends the physical limits we set ourselves.
You showed us that even that which scares us can be a place to find strength.
You showed us that which is stormy and may suck us under can be a place to stand firm upon.
Just like your disciple Peter you call us to step forward in faith, to step out of a place of faith, to step away from doubt.
You call us to walk towards you safe in the knowledge that through you all can be conquered.
You ask us to keep our eyes on you, our faith in you, our courage through you.
Today we say yes to that invitation and with joy we step forward!
Amen!
