I hope you know what I mean by a ‘glowstick’. Maybe they were a thing of their time?
I know when we were in our twenties we would go to nightclubs and lose ourselves on the dance floor, moving and twisting to really uplifting trance music. We would dance and dance and dance…

Part of that dance scene was using a lot of day-glo colours, colours that light up under the UV lights. We would decorate our hair and faces, sometimes we would wear bright t shirts and bleach our jeans to add to the glowing effect. We would carry these little plastic tubes filled with a mix of liquids. When you bend the glowstick, the inner tube snaps, the liquids mix and they glow!! It was (and is) sooooo cool.
Today I read a great quotation.
“It’s okay to be a glowstick, sometimes you have to break before you can glow!”
Let us go to God in prayer.
Heavenly Father, Holy Mother sometimes it feels like the weight of the world is on our shoulders, the stresses of each day accumulate, bearing down on us, forcing us to bend and bend until we face breaking point, and that point scares us.
So many of us are at that point of breaking, we pray now for each of us gathering around this prayer who feel that sense of bending to the point of breaking. We pray for each of us who feel pressure from family, friends, finances, fears, failings, furlough and the future and all that it holds or does not hold.
Be with us Holy Spirit as we hit that breaking point, be with us, a gentle, nurturing spirit and allow us to break safely. Allow us to break, not in to a million pieces that cannot be reconnected, but allow us to break in a way that is of service to us and to you, in a way that means we can rebuild and build back stronger, better, bolder, brighter.
May this point of breaking be a blessing, may it be a moment to shine. When we break, let us glow, when we fracture may light spill through the gaps. So many of us are at breaking point because we simply have too much light inside us, too much light and brightness that we have been afraid up until now to let others see! Lord Jesus remind us that the world needs to see all the brightness in all the many colours we have to offer.
May this moment be a blessing. May we say no to endless bending, may we break with dignity and may we now shine! May our light be like an invite to others, may we provide a safe and loving space where others can have the freedom to break and finally glow!

Amen!
