I was randomly listening to dance music on YouTube the other day (other streaming services are available!) and a favourite from last year came on, ‘Work It Out’ by Karizma. It has been used on an advert before so you may have heard it, if not look it up.
For me it’s a perfect dance song, great bass-line, excellent sampled chord sequence and gospel lyrics, even if they are hard to make out as such.
The lyrics essentially are saying “when you have a light bill due, and you have a gas bill due, and the phones disconnected, and there aint no paycheck yet… He will work it out!”
Often I find if you turn to dance music, the most simple yet powerful gospel messages are perfectly packaged for you.
Let us Pray…
Holy Spirit, God Almighty we know You will work it out. Whatever fills us with fear or passion, sadness or joy, You are there working it out, it is worked out indeed.
Jesus we are present, here on earth, we are Your hands and feet and mouth and heart, we are here made in God’s image. You will work it out, work it out through us, your disciples. For each person with their want, their need, their desire, let us work it us. Let us share, let us care, let us work it out in Your Holy name.
For senseless violence, crime and cruelty, please give us the answers, the responses and the approaches that will make a difference to our communities. We can often feel at a loss as to what to do that might make a difference. Remind us to trust that You will work it out, and you will empower us to be part of the solutions that will work it out. Give us the patience and power to work with those around us.
For issues that threaten our world; war, greed, violence, poverty; we pray now that You spread Your love and peace and compassion. We come before You and ask for a miracle, that our damaged world may be healed. Yet, we know that peace comes from us, from our words and thoughts and actions. Teach us Heavenly Parent, show us the way. Empower us and embolden us to be leaders of peace, love, compassion and caring. Push us, Lord, to stand up and be real agents of change so that all may be worked out in your name.
Holy Spirit guide each one of us to lead a life of powerful christian love and lead us to work in Your name and for Your honour and glory, take us where we are needed. What tiny act can we do that makes a massive difference this week? Guide us to be a listening ear, a supportive word, a hug, a coffee shared, a walk.
This week we will pray and we will act and we will let hope be our guide. In those moments where it seems whatever we try fails or fall short, we will remember that Holy Spirit, Lord of all, You will work it out.
Amen!
